PET estimates cover — of — returns. Carbon benefit assumes this PET becomes recycled material replacing new PET. It is not measured carbon savings.
Verified physical returns ÷ submitted returns. This is not the UK recycling rate. Final recycling outcomes are not yet measured.
What could your next return do?
160 g of PET · 264 g potential CO₂e benefit

How we count and estimate
Only accepted returns with a recorded physical handoff count. Photos, pending scans and rejected returns do not increase the total. Today means the current day in UK time. People means distinct accounts with an accepted physical return.
Weights use reference water-bottle designs: 16 g (500 ml), 28 g (1 litre), 34 g (1.5 litres), 48 g (2 litres), and 95 g (5 litres). They are estimates, not weighbridge measurements. Cans and containers without a reference weight count as returns but are excluded from PET mass and carbon estimates.
The 2026 UK government PET material-production factors are 3,861.58251 kg CO₂e per tonne for new PET and 2,211.58251 for recycled PET. Their difference is 1.65 kg CO₂e per kg of PET. Estimated weight × this difference gives a potential material-production benefit if all estimated PET is recycled into replacement material.
This scenario assumes 100% recovery and replacement of new material. It excludes BinBack transport and sorting, recycling losses, and what would have happened without BinBack. It is not a net footprint reduction, additionality claim, carbon credit, or a company emissions-accounting figure.
How BinBack works
Scan the barcode on an eligible bottle or can.
Take a live photo and keep the container for return.
Take it to a BinBack collection point.
After verification, your reward becomes available.
